History
The Credit Union was established on January 16, 1936 by fourteen people as a medical employee Credit Union. Little did the founders know that their foresight and determination would result in a multi million strong financial cooperative, now known as Focus One Community Credit Union. They put into motion a process that has been growing and serving its members for 70 years.

The Credit Union has gone through four name changes. It was L.A. County General Hospital FCU when it was chartered. In May of 1940 the L.A. County portion of the name was expanded to Los Angeles County. In May of 1968 it changed to L.A. County Medical Centers Employees FCU to reflect the name change of our sole sponsor at the time. In January of 1977 we became Medical Centers FCU.

In December 2002, the members overwhelmingly voted to change the charter of the Credit Union from one regulated by the federal government to one regulated by the State of California. Along with the conversion, the State of California approved the existing medical field of membership sponsors along with the addition of persons who live, work or worship in various communities in the San Gabriel Valley and Metro Los Angeles area which surround our branches.

While we continue to focus on the existing medical industry sponsors, the Board of Directors felt that the new community residents and work force would not relate to being a part of a Credit Union with the name “Medical Centers”. Henceforth, after much deliberation and research we decided on a new name for the Credit Union, “Focus One Community Credit Union”.
